what do the envelopes on the left side of each post mean? Some are blue some are opened, some are red...

If you scroll to the bottom of the page when viewing a forum, there is a legend explaining what these envelope images mean.

Eg:

New posts
Hot thread with new posts
No new posts
Hot thread with no new posts
Closed Thread
Thread Contains a Message Written By You
