![]() | Hello. My boyfriend and I are very interested in teaching English in either China or Japan for about 4 months, starting in September 2007. We are both native English speakers, both have a BA, and are both signed up to take a TEFL course this winter. I am currently a high school math teacher and have worked with children and adults for many years. My boyfriend has worked with children in the past, but is more interested in teaching adults. We are looking to be placed in the same area with a reasonable pay. What is very important to us is being provided accommodation where we can both live. If you would like to contact me, you my do so at equale@gmail.com. Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing from you! ~Erin Quale |

Even in the case of a end of school year and 4 months left, they expect you to stay on longer and complete a one year contract. The J government now offers 2,3 year contracts even longer in some cases so that they can stop the high turnover of teachers. Most that leave early do so because they cant adjust to life in Japan. If you find a 4 month stint in China, dont bet on it being a school you would want to stay at. As for Japan, I have yet to hear of anyone hiring a teacher for 4 months and then letting them go. Only in cases of the worst teacher does it happen. The only way I can see you doing this is if your under 30, and live in one of the select few countries that Japan will issue work holiday visas to. If you qualify for that then go for the 4 months and leave but you wont be able to use the rest of the holiday work visa if you leave early. If you leave it will cancel the time left on the work holiday visa. If you decide to stay in Japan and for a year or more, let me know.
