Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

Thanks for all the responses too!!

Do the other schools (ie. Nova and Ecc, etc) require a demo lesson to be prepared in their interviews too?

Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

Having demo lessons is quite a norm nowadays if you are being hired locally.

If you are applying from abroad, expect a telephone interview.

Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

Usually, when you go to a public school, there's no interview, unless by phone, even if you're in country.
If you work in private institutes or training centres, demo classes are part of the application process. I usually just do a Q & A session, make em laugh and have fun.
No rules are cast in stone though, so wherever we are, we may, or may not, be asked to do a demo. They're no biggie so why sweat em, just have fun, relax and get into it!

Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

I'm curious about how the interview turned out too.

I hope to be at that stage in a few months time after I finish my degree. I have had a look at the Kohgakusha website and it sounds like a fantastic opportunity!

If anyone has any feedback or comments it would be greatly appreciated!

Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

How about if someone has no teaching experience?

Wouldn't the demo class part of the interview just set them up for failure?

Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

If you explain to the recruiter you have no teaching experience, then they may be easy on you. Hopefully you could view a few teaching demo videos over at YouTube beforehand so you can get the idea.

Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

I have a phone interview tonight, and then a face-to-face interview on Friday for a couple of different positions. The info on here is good, although I'm still working my way up to the 5 posts necessary to see the last posted lesson plan! haha

I have to say I'm a bit nervous about the interviews, even though I have had a phone interview before and it went well. I have a feeling I was let off a little lightly! The face-to-face will be interesting, and I've used what other people have written on here as a bit of a guide as to what to expect...I've been up in front of a class before, but only as part of the CELTA course. And that was five months of travelling ago!

Re: preparing for interview with recruiters

Good luck with your interview. Just remember they guys interviewing you are just people themselves. I have found interviews to always be fun. Remember to prepare for those difficult questions like "What are your weaknesses?".
