Back to the Drawing Board - crazy bar shots in your job application

Hi Guys,

Let me get right to the point.

Over the years at AAC we've received hundreds of resumes and photos of applicants looking to teach around the globe. I'm always dumb founded at some of the photos received with job applications.

Time and time again, 90% of photos received have been taken drinking at the bar, hugging a member of the opposite sex (yet to see same sex hugging), applicants with sweat pouring off them and half naked guys on the beach.

There's only one place to go from here, and it's down. Sure, these photos are great to look at, and do send me grinning from ear to ear, BUT, they are definitely not fitting for job applications.

So there you have it. Give the best impression you can. For men, wear a nice business shirt and tie, and women a blouse. Get a photo of yourself teaching in the classroom or with students around you.

Just doing this one thing will boost your chances of landing that dream job.

Best of luck. Any questions, just let me know.

gfell.

Re: Back to the Drawing Board - crazy bar shots in your job application

Great post!
I have recently applied for my 1st ESL job, and being new to the industry, I wasn't used to including a photo in any job application. I really had no idea what to include.
So I put on the suit, and went for a neutral background (some nice trees).
I didn't get the job, but, this post has let me know I was kinda on the right track.

Good on you!

It's really important to have a neutral photo. Just today I got an application from a woman wearing a bikini top and her hair all over the place. This really doesn't cut the cake and we need to look the part when applying for jobs.

Glad this tip could help!
