Indian Education and students leaving to study abroad

Every year the government spends Rs.500 billion on nearly 120,000 students who leave the country to study abroad. This money can be spent in improving the education system within the country, says an industry body.

The government can use this money to build 40 IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) and 20 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) says the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).

A study highlighted the fact that while India attracts less than 8,000 foreign students for higher education every year, China hosts more than 140,000 foreign students. Singapore and Malaysia attract over 70,000 and 30,000 foreign students respectively.
