![]() | TESL and TESOL are pretty much the same. See http://www.aacircle.com.au/forums/te...urse-type.html Plenty of good private schools in Australia. Depends on what you want to study, your budget and location.

![]() | TESOL Diploma Go for the 360-hour Advanced TESOL Teacher Diploma Program at Australasian Training Academy. I wouldn't do the "Professional Diploma" program as it sounds like a short course by having the words "professional" in it. Many longer courses of 2 years do offer "Advanced Diplomas". So if you get your Advanced Diploma, then for a school or visa officer abroad, it could sound as if you have studied for 2 years. In fact, in the US, some 3 year programs are only called a Diploma. So, with an Advanced Diploma you may be able to get your work visa. i-to-i wont help your cause as they only offer weekend and online courses. You need to get something with the words "Diploma" in it. |

![]() | Re: Teaching the world, growing as a writer... Why not try your luck in Thailand? I have read through this forum that they don't necessarily require a university degree in teaching. As long as you're a native english speaker then they will hire you. |

![]() | Re: Teaching the world, growing as a writer... I didn't read what many others have told you but I'm also 21 in Australia and on Centrelink ahahah... I plan to be overseas sometime this year. The answer my friend, is CELTA. Of course it depends on where you want to teach English but i have been researching this a lot and checking job boards everyday and stuff for places in Asia. Find a CELTA course near you (the costs are extreme) but it is the most widely recognised course as it is done through Cambridge University. the passing rate of students that have joined it are quite high so if you have your heart set on it and are willing to put your life on hold for a month to do it (as it suggests you should throughout the duration of the course) id say do it. in a lot of Asian places it is very VERY easy to get a teaching job. i know i don't have one yet nor have i started my course but i look at job boards a lot and i see employers putting up jobs all the time, one post that i have seen recently is a place in japan near the Osaka area. they are so desperate for teachers they are willing to even pay for your airfare to get there and it said full training provided. this isn't a once in a while type thing i see on the job boards either. there are so many jobs going around in Asia that don't require spending years working towards a diploma. so i think its very possible if you just have a CELTA certificate. happy reading. yay first post Last edited by gfell; Thu 11-Jan-07 at 06:38 PM. |

![]() | Re: Teaching the world, growing as a writer... Thanks for your comments shogoz1. You have some very valid points and it was a great 1st post. Definitely a CELTA course is valued much more than a TEFL course only because it's validated by Cambridge University. It has certain minimum requirements whereas a TEFL course can really be offered by anyone.
