Success finding a job with only TESOL

Hello again

I would like to hear from anyone who was successful in obtaining a position with just a TESOL course and no University degree as such.

I would also be curious to find out in which country they were successful in finding their post.

I am caught in a dilemma at the moment as I have one year remaining on my degree, but would like to go overseas next year and so am investigating TESOL courses, but as I said previously, if it's not going to be helpful in isolation why would one do it.

I also have heard that people can teach overseas with just a degree anyway (without TESOL etc).

Would love to hear from anyone.

Thanks

There are many teachers in China with just a TESL certificate. There are also quite a few teachers in Taiwan with just a TESL certificate and 2 year diploma in another discipline.

Re: Success finding a job with only TESOL

Hi,

You would have some limit in your choice of options in China. Technically you are supposed to have a degree for Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. I'd decide where in China you want to go before making the leap.

Eastern Europe and Russia generally don't require a degree. Places like Indonesia do not require a degree. You still have options without a degree...

Teaching English Abroad: The Essential Job Resources is a pretty good resource to help you decide. A lot of the info comes from the book "Teaching English Abroad" which is now in its 8th edition.

I hope this helps.
