![]() | It seems that there are many schools for TESL but I see only a few listed here. Has anyone heard of ITTO? Bridge Linguatec? Oxford Seminars? Would receiving a degree in ESL better then a certificate? Such as WGU online university - WGU - online colleges - online degrees what about some schools i didnt mention. I am new at this and looking for a school that will actually help in landing a job Last edited by gfell; Sat 29-Sep-07 at 06:14 PM. |

![]() | Re: Which school-same ol' same ol' See a more comprehensive listing at www.aacircle.com.au/tesl_tefl.htm. ITTO, Bridge and Oxford have all been around for a while and do have a good name in the industry. So too does ICAL and i-to-i. In the end, it all depends on which one better suits your needs. Definitely a degree in Education is much better than a TEFL certificate.

![]() | Re: Which school-same ol' same ol' Oops, I should mention, I guess, I have an MA in English Lit, a BS in Journalism I was wondering would another MA in ESL be better then an ESL certificate or would only having the certificate work? I would like to live in a foreign country and share my knowledge and culture while learning theirs. I am worried about the money issue... Feel free to email me if you wish. |

![]() | Re: Which school-same ol' same ol' An MA in English would be more than enough. A TEFL / TESL certificate would be like icing on the cake. I wouldn't spend too much on a TEFL certificate though since you hold an MA in English.

![]() | Re: Which school-same ol' same ol' Degree Vs TEFL really depends on what your goals are... if you want to teach in non English speaking countries... get the certificate, see if you like it and then maybe look into the degree/MA after getting a year or 2 under your belt. certificates are cheaper and less time consuming and are enough for a good job and for you to know what you are doing in the classroom... to have the widest choice of jobs make sure your certificate has teaching practice with foreign learners...

![]() | Re: Which school-same ol' same ol' Usually an MA TESOL is a course for experienced TESOL professionals or for people who already have an understanding of the subject but wish to further their knowledge. Unless your intention is to remain within the ESL industry and build a career for yourself in this field then I would personally opt for a TESL/TEFL Certificate to add to your MA. This will allow you to get a taster of the ELT profession and see if it is really for you before committing your time, effort and finances to get to the next level. Being certified will make you more marketable and it will also, and perhaps more importantly, give you the basic tools to enter a new profession with confidence, knowing that when you walk in a classroom you will be able to make a difference. |
