![]() | Re: Oxford Seminars tesol course I'm in Windsor, Ontario. Courses are held in reaonably close places. The "teach and learn" course looks fairly interesting. The closest is in London, which is about 200km away. Its worth the travel if it is better than the Oxford Seminars course. Unfortunately their website makes it look a littly flakey (spelling, no physical address, etc.). And a whois search shows the domain name is registered to an address in Nova Scotia, but the webpage shows a 613 area code. Also, there are no prices listed, nor do they explain anything about their job guarantee. I'm going to request more information. There is also Global TESOL College which has seminars in Ann Arbor, Michigan (about 60km away). It looks like they want people to have information, and they even have a YouTube video with testimonials. They too have a job guarantee, but it takes effect immediately upon graduation and you require 30 rejections (Oxford: 20 rejections and 6 months after you get job search assistance). But overall it looks like a good place to start. Apparently they have a 97.5% placement rate. What do you folks think? Last edited by gfell; Wed 13-Dec-06 at 04:44 AM. |

![]() | Re: Oxford Seminars tesol course Hey eric, Nova Scotia...Funny, because they only offer in Ontario it looks like. Have to be careful about running an IP search; they do not show the location of the company usually since many sites are hosted on a variety of third-party servers. Many companies do not manage their own. Might explain the spelling mistakes. Although I only took a brief look, so I didn't see anything glaring...Why haven't you contacted them? You seem to be hesistant to contact all these places. I would say get a package about their courses and go from there. There are always people on here from different companies promoting there courses under the veil of being "interested in TESOL." I would say get some info from all of the courses you have mentioned and compare. Some courses might be better for some people, while others are better for, well, others. |

![]() | Re: Oxford Seminars tesol course Hello, I just contacted Test - Learn. I got a bunch of answers to the questions you were asking and some questions I posed to the lady. It seems they are a small outfit that might be family owned. I have to complete some work here, or I am going to get fired!, so I will fill in all of the details as soon as I can. ![]() |

I just contacted them now and requested some information. I'm hesistant to contact people because I'm afraid of wasting their time. In my opinion, the vast majority of their information should be available online so that people don't have to email them. In addition, if a school I'm applying to wants to look into the company, they should be able to find out details about the course I have taken without being required to contact them. But that's just my opinion!! ![]() The good thing I like about the Global TESOL College is that they don't require a degree to take the course. That's convenient for me because I can take it before I'm finished my degree (I have 2 more semesters left after this one), and, in theory, I can be good to go for January 2008. | |

![]() | Re: Oxford Seminars tesol course Hi! Wow, this e-mail trackback feature is really conveninent. I was just writing my friend when it showed you wrote. Really convenient feature. You seem to really check out where these sites come from, but not actually talk to the people at the companies. Not trying to me rude, but most companies do not put everything on their sites for a variety of reasons. I know where I work they are always afraid of competitors figuring out where they are going next, etc. I think most TESOL companies focus more on their info sessions that are usually offered for free. I have seen a bunch advertised around, and had friends go to them. All the people I know said much more info was provided there. Should try... After talking a little bit with the lady from Test & Learn (this is the same one, right: www.TestandLearn.ca ), I think they are pretty small. So maybe they just don't spend time putting everything on their site (?). Either way I answered some questions they gave me and look forward to hearing more from them soon. Doesn't hurt to try. I will try to provide the rest of the info I got when I am done talking with my friend online. ![]() TL doesn't require a degree, either. I think. Ask to make sure. ![]() | Re: Oxford Seminars tesol course Yes, I think you're right about talking with the people. I guess I shouldn't be judging the book by the cover. I emailed them and I'll see what kind of response I get! ![]() |
