Hello Keystone,

When you mean you want to get certified, do you mean via a TESL or TEFL course? If so, then such teacher training courses can be done either online or in weekend classes. Please see www.aacircle.com.au/tesl_tefl.htm.

You may want to take a look at www.embusa.es/edu/listen.html for a list of English Speaking schools in Spain. It wouldn't hurt to email them all asking on their requirements and upcoming availability.

Teaching Qualification

If you get a TEFL Certificate, then it's only worth as much as the institution behind it. Eg; if you get a TEFL Certificate from "ACME Academy" for example, it will have no weighting as opposed to getting a TEFL Certificate from i-to-i or ICAL.

By the way, I just made up the name for ACME Academy.

Ever heard of ACTDEC? Try to do a TEFL Course that is accredited by them.

ACTDEC Accreditation

Oh, I suppose I should clarify. Here's more info on ACTDEC.

What is ACTDEC and what does it do?
  • ACTDEC is the Accreditation Council for TESOL Distance Education Courses, a non-profit making independent body responsible for maintaining professional standards in TESOL distance programmes.
  • Based on a rigorous professional code of practice ACTDEC accredits TESOL/TEFL distance course providers for four separate course levels graded from introductory to advanced.
  • The same syllabus content, at each level, is covered by all ACTDEC accredited providers though course methodology, approach and delivery may differ.
  • ACTDEC accredited courses are regularly audited to ensure that quality expectations are being met.
  • ACTDEC awards three certificates and a diploma to successful course participants. These awards state the level, syllabus and course content covered. They also serve to guarantee schools and institutions world wide of quality training assurance through accredited and regulated distance education provision.
  • Together with sponsoring institutions ACTDEC also offers a two-month carefully structured, externally assessed, Teaching Practice Portfolio scheme for ACTDEC distance learning certificate holders.
