![]() | Teaching English to Adults Learning English - more than just conversation. Teaching adults in group sizes of 6 or less is very manageable even for the new teacher. Students are often content with sitting at their desks participating in free flowing conversation for the entire lesson. Obviously with larger class sizes, this type of lesson style is highly unsuitable, and a more regimented approach to teaching is required. Learning and improving English requires more than just engaging in free flowing conversations. Adult students need to put pen to paper, consult a dictionary and engage in role plays. Often teachers make the mistake to allocate the entire lesson for conversation only. In fact, students may even ask for "conversation only" in their classes. The teacher however needs to ensure text work is utilised in order for any real improvement to be made.
