![]() | Lesson Preparation A Recipe for the Classroom Have you prepared well enough for your lesson? Lesson preparation can take anywhere from a few minutes to 30 minutes, depending on class size and materials to be covered. Material selection should be appropriate for the lesson. Are the CD's, textbooks and other materials ready for use? Lesson preparation can be thought of as a recipe with steps to follow. Ensure you have enough steps to follow to last the entire lesson. It's a good idea to prepare more than the lesson time can use. That way, the teacher can be sure not to run out of steps to follow. Even experienced teachers have struggled when they have carried through their lesson plan only to realise there is still 15 minutes left in the allocated lesson time. For adult classes, at the beginning of your lesson, announce objectives functionally. For children classes, review previous lesson's homework. Lessons should proceed from presentation/checking for understanding to practice by application. |
