![]() | Sample Lesson Plan: Age 6~12. Group size 3. Task 1: Student Greetings After students have sat at their desks, the teacher asks very simple and random questions. Ask about 3 different questions to each student, giving a total of 9 questions for a class size of 3 students. Examples are: Teacher: How old are you?Obviously, the teacher will first need to explain what answers are required by either showing flashcards, performing actions or drawing pictures on the whiteboard. Task 2: Review homework Ask students to take out and turn to the page of their assigned homework. Slowly go through the homework with students, clearly pronouncing words and ensuring all students read out loud together at the same time. Point to each word as students read the text. That way, students slowly learn ABC recognition through reading. Reward correct homework with a stamp at the top of the page. If there are mistakes, explain what the correct answer should be and ask students to re-present their homework in the following lesson. Only stamp homework when correct. Task 3: Writing Practice Based on Homework Ask students to go to the whiteboard and write a simple word taken from their homework. It's ok for students to take their books to the whiteboard to copy the letters. If the homework was on colours, then ask Student1 to write "blue", Student2 to write "green" etc. Try not to help students with the writing. They need to find the correct word in their books and write it on the board. When all students have finished, the teacher then checks spelling by getting students to first pronounce each letter of the word, correcting where necessary. If the word is "green", the teacher will point to the first letter, getting students to pronounce "g" and so on. Allow students to try and pronounce the letter first before assisting. Task 4: Singalong To refresh students, have them stand up and sing a song whilst performing actions. Get students to mimic song lyrics. Task 5: Textbook Study Now is time to complete the next lesson in their assigned text. It's always a good idea to have students point to words whilst listening to the CD / cassette. Always get students to repeat the words after the CD / cassette has finished. Task 6: Allocate Homework Explain clearly what needs to be done for homework. It's ok to quickly verbally do the answers in front of students as this reinforces the lesson once again. Task 7: English Learning Games Reward students with fun English learning games as "Guess Who", "Bingo" etc.. If your classroom does not have such games, then you can play Hangman on the whiteboard. Try not to spend too much time playing games. 5 minutes would be the target in a 40 minute class. Task 8: Clean Up Instruct students to pack up and tidy the classroom. |
