![]() | Learning Styles Learning English by Experience An effective learning style is teaching students to learn by experience. Robert L. Politzer in his book Foreign Language Learning: A Linguistic Introduction, tells the student that "if the textbook you happen to be using follows an approach that connects sentences with specific situations, you have only to follow the book."But is is doubtful if a textbook can go even that far under its own power when learning a second language. More accurate would be "a student tends to remember only what he has actually experienced and what is in harmony with his personality."More and more text books now show colourful and real life illustrations. The teacher needs to get students to learn English by participating in role-play situations and real-life experiences. Reading and listening can only go so far in the learning process. Don't just follow the book. Teach students by using role-play and experiences as an added learning style.
