![]() | Meaningless Classroom Games I wonder if every teacher is guilty at some stage of using meaningless games in the classroom. Back when I first started teaching English, I must admit, there were lessons when I couldn't be bothered to teach, and so had the students play meaningless classroom games. So what are meaningless classroom games? Well, it would have to be a game that uses no English. The children have a ball, yet they learn nothing. They use their own language to play the game, and the teacher just sits back and relaxes whilst observing. As you can see, the teacher just kicks back and allows valuable classtime to pass. Call it slackening off at work. Nowadays, I never use meaningless classroom games. Reason being is that I know how much the parents are paying for their children's education. Furthermore, I know some parents aren't well off, so I want to make sure I give a quality lesson to their children. So, as a plea to all teachers, try to incorporate English when using games in the classroom. Bernard H. (English Teacher - Taipei, Taiwan) |
