| ESL Rookie ![]() | Re: Wedding Bells with Foreigners In China, the one child policy and the use of the ultra-sound have affected things a lot over the years. There are big signs around the city these days that warn future parents, that getting an abortion after finding out the sex of a baby is illigal. A boy in this culture is highly desired, and recently a man who was convicted after murdering his 2 daughters stated it is shameful there is no boy to succeed him. He had wished to start his family over with a son. I have read several articles through the years on the lack of "wives" in China, and the amount of bachelor men in this country will be phenominal in the future. Hopefully the attitude will change and parents will begin to also reallize, that if they wish to have grandchildren, being blessed with a daughter will greatly increase their chances. I guess things like this happen when the nature of things is being manipulated by man. Imagine a whole country of people trying every possible way to have a boy, and not thinking about the problems of imbalance, or the fact that if everyone succeeded, the whole population would decrease rapidly after a generation. It will be interesting to see what will happen.

![]() | Re: Wedding Bells with Foreigners Hmmmm....as a white woman, I would not allow myself to be auctioned off to some old man. Yuk! I think the woman should have found another way to make money than rely on some old man. I cannot say that it is right or wrong, after all who am I to judge the lives of those living in foreign countries but there must be other options. It is kind of degrading to be bid on like you are chattel for this guy. When will the world evolve and look at women in a positive light. |
