![]() | Do your students like you? I remember in high-school that there was a small handful of teachers that were constantly being harassed by students. Likewise, there was another small handful of teachers that were looked upon as role models by students. So what makes a good teacher? Sure, knowledge and expertise in the area helps, but is there more to it? Simply, "Yes"! Teacher to student relationships contribute a lot to the learning patterns of students. A teacher needs to realise that respect by students should be earnt, and not by being in a position of power. In the English classroom, not only does a teacher need to have sound ESL techniques and methods, but also an excellent personality for instruction. If you can be liked by students and earn their respect, then a more rewarding classroom environment can be felt by all. P. D. Loren (Student Counselor - Sydney, Australia) |
