Unhappy Teachers Entertaining Students

Getting tired of teaching adults?

I suppose new teachers on the block don't know what I'm talking about. But I can bet a million dollars, experienced teachers know very well, that teaching at times can be draining on our energy.

As a teacher, you are constantly thinking of the next topic, drill or activity to introduce to the class. The last thing a class needs is 20 blank faced students staring up at the teacher waiting for instructions, with the teacher having no idea where to lead students next.

Another problem - walking into a class of dead beats with no personalities. The students are tired after work, and all they want to do is laugh and be entertained by your cheesy jokes. Every week I ask my students the same boring questions:
  • How was your weekend?
  • What did you do last night?
  • How many hours do you work a day?
  • What did you eat for lunch?
  • What will you do next weekend?
And you know what the students' answer is? Just a one worded answer. For crying out loud... give me a break! A conversation has to be 2 ways. They rarely ask me how my weekend was!

Anyway, enough complaining. I'm the teacher, and it's up to me to find a solution to feeling drained by my adult students.
