![]() | Student Motivation How Motivation ties in with Learning a Foreign Language If we consider the diverse situations in which adults communicate in second languages, it's probably true that most second languges are not learnt in academic situations but are acquired naturally. A speaker of one language must use another in the workplace or community. Often one language is used at home and in everyday communication but another must be learnt for educational or business purposes. In many cases the adult speaker has moved to a foreign country and must learn that language for much of his or her daily communication, as is the case for most immigrants. The main point is that people of all ages and backgrounds do acquire second language, often without the help of formal education or special courses. One factor common to all these situations is that ==> language learning takes place when there is a real need and motivation for it. |
