Re: How Long Should I be an English Teacher?

This is one situation which all teachers need to give serious thought to. Whilst schools prefer to employ teachers already in the country, returning home is not too much of a big deal as if the school is serious about employing you they will they will be willing to go to the effort of organising things for a teacher oversea's. Also after you have thought for several years in one country you should develop a reputation amonst schools, if your reputation is good then you should not have too much trouble finding another job. Letters of reference are always important to a potential employer.

If you would like to change countries updating your skills with a diploma of TEFL or a master of TEFL would be the best way to provide the schools with reasurrance and quite possibly earn yourself a promotion in terms of salary.

Hope this helps,

Re: How Long Should I be an English Teacher?

Being a teacher is really a tough job. Considering you chose this profession and went to different places to teach other people, still you are longing to go back to your hometown. I suggest you continue working as long as you can. But you can take a vacation if you still have extra time.

Re: How Long Should I be an English Teacher?

I personally don't plan to head back home for a long while, but all EFL/ESL teachers have to remember that they where not teaching regular English and that unless you get a parallel job qualifications and experience do not convert so well.
