![]() | I have completed my TESOL course and I am venturing to Thailand within the next month in hope to begin my first job teaching English. I'm quite nervous about this and yet excited too. I was wondering whether many schools will take you on as an assistant teacher first as Im a bit nervous and have no idea what to expect as it's going being my first time. Is this something that I can hope to establish or am I asking for the whole pot of gold? |

![]() | Unlikely that a school will hire you as an Assistant Teacher initially, as they cannot afford the expense of wages for 2 teachers per class. You can always mention in your application that you are willing to work the first week free to get to know the system and class procedures. Many schools realise that first time English teachers do need initial one-on-one training. Even experienced teachers receive one-on-one training (for 1 day only though) when taking over an existing class. The main thing to realise is that schools are looking for a certain character and personality. Someone with ethics and morals. Someone who cares about their students and wont run away after 3 months. If you can show schools this, then you can get your first teaching job in Thailand. |
