![]() | Teaching in Vietnam Wow, thanks for the information, KKBaby... it seems that there is no end of things to be careful of when pursuing this vocation in a foreign country! Since you seem to have some knowledge around the Vietnam situation specifically, I’m hoping that you may be able to answer some further questions…. Do you teach in VN? If so, can you recommend any reputable schools that I can contact for employment once I have my certification? I’m noticing, as I have been researching on the web, that there isn’t a lot of information about teaching in VN to be found, especially in comparison to other Asian countries like Thailand or China, so I’m wondering if the push for Vietnamese to learn English is something new there, or is it that the policies of the VN government have now changed/softened to the point where this is an emerging opportunity. Any information specific to teaching in VN by anyone reading this post would be greatly appreciated. My current plans are to travel to HCMC by June. Thanks! |

![]() | Re: Teaching in Vietnam No I do not teach in Vietnam if you look at the country flag below my avatar. Am in South Korea now. I think there is enough demand to find a teaching job in Vietnam, but unfortunatley many teachers overlook it due to the low wages. Vietnam is a very poor country with food or waterborne diseases a high risk. The average annual salary for the local is only about USD3,500. So don't expect too much as a teacher. |

![]() | Re: Teaching in Vietnam G'day all. Im an Aussie with no teaching experience or qualifications but I'm just about to do a TESOL course (not sure whether i should do Certificate or diploma) and I'm desparate to go teach in Vietnam, preferably Saigon. I've read a fair few forums but most of them are fairly old. Anyone got any recent information for me? Is the average wage still around US$3500? I'm not trying to get rich, just want to survive comfortably there for 6 months or so. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, Lewi |

![]() | Re: Teaching in Vietnam Yes, that's spot on for the average Vietnamese person. And we're talking $3,500 for 1 year's salary! Foreign teachers though will get more, otherwise no-one would go there. Expect around $12~$15 / hour without housing included. Try doing a search in the Jobs Worldwide forum with the keyword "Vietnam". It will pull up a heap of jobs in Vietnam giving you an indication of what you're to expect for your remuneration. Good luck.
