Teaching in India

Currently there has been a good demand for teachers in India. Indians are known to have good English skills. There have been many international schools and colleges opening institutes in India.

Re: Teaching in India

Whilst Indians may be good at speaking English, their thick accent makes it quite difficult to understand.

Don't expect to earn much teaching in India though. The average annual salary is about $4000!

There may be good demand for teachers, but there unfortunately is not equally as good supply of teachings wanting to teach in India.

Re: Teaching in India

You are right that the salaries are quite low. But the salary mentioned is for junior teachers. You can get much more. Also the cost is living is very low and hence the earning potential grows.

Also the overall experience is very good as with specific school the standard of teaching is quite high (specially in high schools)

Re: Teaching in India

As I've said several times, teaching cannot always be about the money, but sheesh! $4000/ annum, bit low even with adjusted cost of living etc. One would need a fairly significant financial backstop back home, just to get home I'd think. I'd love to teach in India, but reality must kick in and unfortunately that means income and the ability to have at least a portion of it redundant so one can save. On that sort of income, going home to NZ might be a wee bit difficult!

China isn't great, but I can earn what I need here, and Hm the Gf saves as necessary so it works for me.
Nuff said,

Re: Teaching in India

That's really a shame. I love Indian food and am interested in Indian culture, but for those sorts of rates, I can't break the bank to teach!

Re: Teaching in India

Yeah, I love Indian food too, and am somewhat mystified by the culture and history of the country so a teaching gig there'd be spot on. But money does matter in this crazy ole world of hours and sometimes we must give in to the craven bastards that invented the requirement of the filty lucre in order to live and actually get somewhere in life.

Sadly, $4000 just wouldn't cut the mustard unless I was a green 20 year old with nothing better to do.... not that being such is a bad thing, and I kinda wish I was again!
