![]() | Teaching at a Gesamtschule If you prefer the more temperate climates, then Germany can be the place to teach. Great skiing in the winter and mild summers, Germany surely is a beautiful place to teach in. Spending 1 hot summer teaching in Taiwan was enough for me, and I had to escape. Germany was my next teaching destination. The amount of nature, blue skies and clean air is surely a big plus teaching in Germany. A nice change from Asian cities. Germany can sometimes be difficult to apply for a teaching position. Reason being is that many schools require teachers to hold an EU passport. However, I was and still am puzzled as to how can an EU passport holder teach English when in fact they aren't native English speakers? Anyway, I'm just lucky as I have both an Australian and German passport. I was born in Australia, yet speak very little German. It's now great to live in Germany - the motherland where both my parents were born. I teach in a Gesamtschule here in Koblenz. It's a lovely school near the Deutches Eck - where the Rhine River and Mosel River join up. A Gesamtschule is a co-ed school. That is, both female and male students studying together. We have over 1000 students learning a range of subjects from Sciences, History and Business. And I'm the English teacher and loving it! ![]() Peter Bauer (English Teacher - Koblenz, Germany) |

![]() | Re: Teaching English in Germany Teaching is Germany is quite good. However I do have some of my friends who have complained about 1) Food - The overall taste 2) Racial Comments on non-white people 3) Security These are not very big issues but probably to look into. |

![]() | Re: Teaching English in Germany You sure you got the right country? I have been there more than 5 times and love the country. Food is great with superb gravies. Security not an issue and nor was racial comments. Don't know why your friends are complaining. I have been to Koblenz, Dresden, Munchen and Stuttgart a loved the places. |

![]() | Re: Teaching English in Germany Hi, They sure were telling me about Germany. But am sure they (my friends) might just be the one who were exceptions (!) as overall I did read in these and other forums that the overall experience in Germany is quite good. Just thought of sharing. |
