![]() | Hong Kong Work Holiday Visa I came to Hong Kong on a Work/Holiday visa last year to check out the employment situation. If you are interested in teaching in Hong Kong for a year, are under 30 years old and would like to work part-time for a few different places the Work/Holiday visa is an excellent idea. There are loads of jobs which pay by the hour here - anywhere between HKD150 at the lower end to HKD600 at the higher end. Most will pay above $250. I was able to teach english at a local kindergarten two days a week, work for a private english school on the weekend and an international theatre company leading drama workshops a few hours a week. I was sometimes asked to take cooking/ art and craft/ dance and story telling classes for kids(these kinds of after school activities are popular in Hong Kong). This was a welcome break from standard classroom teaching. I had a great experience - so much so that I returned to Australia last semester to finish my BA and am now back in Hong Kong working full-time at a kindergarten. You can check out more about the Work/Holiday visa here: The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department It is a great way to check out the job market for yourself, make connections for full-time employment and weed out the less desirable employers from the better ones. I gained a lot of experience without the demands of a full-time schedule and having to be locked to one employer. For jobs in Hong Kong I usually check these two websites: www.classifiedpost.com.hk Expat Hong Kong - The Information Resource for Hong Kong Expats Look under the employment/careers section |
