China has so many internal problems that it's gonna be a helluva long time before they can truly claim "superpower" status. As for their economy, how long was it before the US "bubble burst in the 80's, or at any other time of unprecedented economic expansion. This current phenomena cannot, and will not be sustained indefinitely. There are also gonna be population problems of a different kind I'd think. They'll have a sharp decrease in population sometime in the next few generations. As it is now, there aren't enough women for the men, so that'll cause a lot of trouble. Add to this the problems of pollution and corruption to name but a few major ones. Nope, we won't be learning Mandarin or Cantonese for a long time yet, if ever, as a second language. Just my 2 cents. ![]() |
