![]() | I think a lot of job ads to teach in China are somewhat misleading. They say the salary you will receive is way above the standard given to the local Chinese. But the job ads fail to indicate that many Chinese live at home with their parents etc., so don't need to pay for rent. |

| Junior Member ![]() | You will make more than the average Chinese An ad that says you will make more than the average Chinese person is true. Even at the low end of about 4000 rmb you will be quite abit over the average. If you land a good job you will be able to save quite alot, if that job is in a city other than the expensive cities such as Shanghai or Beijing. You could eat out every night, take a taxi all the time and still save money. You will get your accomodations paid for and usually other perks as well. Especially if you are working for a university. Such as internet connection, computer, water, washing machine. Remember it's always best to talk to or email current teachers at the job you are thinking of taking. Be smart, investigate everything. My experience has been great and I have been in China for 3.5 years without a return home. I have more money in the bank now than when I came here and hope to soon buy my own apartment. I will be posting more photo's to give you an idea about what to expect. Or you can get lots of info at my blog about living and working in China as an esl teacher. ![]() | Saving money in China Great post and very encouraging words worldtour! Can't believe you have been in China now for 3.5 years without 1 trip back home. For me, I head back home every year. Usually twice a year I head out of the country. Otherwise, I tend to lose my sanity. ![]() |
