![]() | Manners in China Definitely miss the table manners. In China, it's like dodging flying food when eating opposite another person. Last edited by gfell; Sat 23-Dec-06 at 07:32 PM. |

My girlfriend has the same table manners of a hog at a trough and it's kinda off putting to eat around her. Although I'm getting used to it, and she really tries hard not to sound as she does, she can't quite manage it... if my Mum saw/heard it, I'd shudder to think what she'd do but lets say that the fallout would be worse than a few nukes popped over Guangzhou! Lets not talk about alla the other "differences" like spitting, screaming into cellphones, babies doing ablutions on streets etc, not to mention piles of rubbish everywhere and the ubiquitous plastic bags drifting with the breeze! Where in China are you? ![]()

![]() | Re: Manners in China Yes, the table manner are attrocious even at the best of times. I've even seen people spit out the food right onto a nice clean white table cloth. What's next I thought? Place your false teeth next to your chopsticks?? Hmmm.... Am in Shenzhen! |

| Senior Member ![]() | Re: Manners in China Lol, if you're not used to that by now, you must be new in China! The table manners certainly leave a lot to be desired and sometimes I wonder where the end result of 5000 years of continuous civilization may be. I've searched but haven't seen much unless one likes temples and old pottery etc. How long HAVE you been in China incidentally? I'm in Guangzhou, not too far, coupla hours away, so if you're up this way, it'd be nice to meet another Kiwi if/when you have time. My cell number is 1591-841-7025. Give me a call next time you're up here. Cheers and hope xmas was good for you! ![]()
