AIDS in China

AIDS is still a concern in China.

World AIDS Day - Dec 1 -

As an English teacher in China, I often wonder why the standard of health care in China is so low. There is definitely a lack of hygiene and quality controls if you go to the smaller clinics.

I was alarmed at a report I read last week regarding AIDS in China. The report stated:
  • 17% of the population didn't know about the disease
  • 77% didn't realise condoms help prevent HIV
With a population of over 1 billion, that's a lot of people that can easily become infected. There are now just under 1 million people infected with HIV in China. Estimates are that this number can easily grow to 10 million within 5 years.

I'm writing this article in the hope to protect foreigners who go to China to teach English. At the bare minimum, ensure to use a condom when having sex and ensure you only use large hospitals for your health needs.

Re: AIDS in China

Is it true that the Chinese recycle their needles? I've heard this several times.

Re: AIDS in China

Depends who you hang around with. If you hang around with junkies and drug users, then yeh, am sure they would share needles.

If you go to hospitals and doctors, then I don't think you have a thing to worry about.
