When to go?

Hi, I want to go and teach in Taiwan for 1 or 2 years, I'm not sure when the best time to go is though. I'm in Australia and thought that it would be good to spend Xmas and NYE with my sister who has residency here, and then go to Taiwan in January. I also have tickets to see U2 in Melbourne in Nov and want to go to that! But Taiwan's school year starts in Sept, so I'm worried that waiting so long to apply may limit my options. Does anyone know whether there are good/bad times to try and find work there?

Thanks

Jess

Wink Best time to go to Taiwan

As you know, the best time to head to Taiwan for teaching is around July and August when the new school term starts. If you want to teach elementary and school aged kids, then this would be the best time. But, there is usually still quite a bit of demand around November when the newly hired teachers decide to move on or leave for a number of reasons.

Really, I don't think you should be too concerned with which month you go to Taiwan. There are teaching jobs (not necessarily in the public school system) continuously being advertised all year round.

Enjoy your U2 concert!

I hoped someone would say that!

Thanks Antonio, I hoped that would be the case, and as you say, there have certainly been postings throughout, or at least the last 8 months or so; however it is reassuring to have someone else confirm things. I think I will stay here a while longer and go to Taiwan in January; my plans have become even more exotic now - I hope to include a visit to Bali/Indonesia for a month or so in October, and I would like to do a TEFL before I go out as well.

Anyway cheers, and I'll say hello to Bono for you.
