Visitor Visa Problem

Hi. This is my first time trying all of this (teaching abroad), and I'm obviously not too good at it.

I went to Hong Kong for a Visitor Visa. I got it and came back to Taiwan. Now I need to go back and get another visa, except, they stopped me and told me that I needed to go to an office to GET my visitor visa. I guess the piece of paper they stuck in my passport wasn't the visa, it was just the paper allowing me to get a visa here in Taiwan. I didn't know that, and have been living here for two months, apparently on nothing.

Nobody said anything about having to do this, not the visa office, not the airport, so I thought I had my visa already. I am leaving before the "visa" expires, but I am going tomorrow to get it switched to the visitor visa and try to work things out, which I should have done a long time ago apparently.

Any advice on what I should do? Did anyone else have this problem? I really need a new visitor visa, and if they stamp in my passport that I overstayed, I think my chances of getting a new one are toast. I don't know what to do and it's pretty scary.

Any advice would help! Thanks!

Visas in Taiwan

There are 4 types of visas in Taiwan:
  1. Diplomatic visa
  2. Courtesy visa
  3. Visitor visa
  4. Resident visa
The following fee rates apply for each visa type:
  1. Single Entry Visitor Visa: NT$1,200
  2. Multiple Entry Visitor Visa: NT$2,400
  3. Single Entry Resident Visa: NT$2,200
  4. Multiple Entry Resident Visa: NT$3,000
A Single Entry visa means each time you leave Taiwan, your visa will expire. If you plan on making multiple trips out of Taiwan, then it's more economical to get a Multiple Entry Visa.

After reading your situation, it seems you only got a Single Entry visa.
