![]() | Taking child and living as a family in Taiwan Hi, My husband and I are looking at teaching English in Taiwan however we have a 7 year old son and would like to know how he would be schooled, and the cost for him to be schooled while still being able to make decent money as Teachers. We have Taiwanese friends living in Chiayi and are looking at living in that area. We are not professional teachers but hold many years of experience in jobs which entail high English proficiency, my husband being a Sales Manager and I have always worked in the administration/secretarial field within Law Offices and Accounting. Our aim would be to live and work in Taiwan for at least 2 years, with an aim to learning Mandarin and gaining financial security while living in decent accommodation. We would appreciate as much information to help us in this regard so we can compare all avenues in making the right decision, eg, cost of living, schooling for our son, wages, tax, etc. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. ![]() |

![]() | Schooling your 7 year old child in an International School in Taiwan will be pricy. It's not cheap, however since both you and your wife will be teaching English, then you should be able to afford it. I very much doubt you can save much if you send your child to an international school, study mandarin and live in decent accommodation. There are also the initial setup costs of establishing yourself when you first move to Taiwan. After spending 2 years in Taiwan, expect to have some savings, but it may not amount to as much as you think. As a full-time teacher in Taiwan, you would be on about NT$60,000 per month. Less tax of 10% if staying more than 183 days. For a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment, expect around NT$30,000 per month. Best would be to see actual classifieds of accommodation in Taiwan. See below:
