![]() | Teachers beware! Taiwanese mosquitoes. Don't know if Taiwan still has this problem, but back in 1998 when I was teaching in Taipei, I got terribly sick. And it was only my 1st week there too. ![]() The mosquitoes made me really sick! There was also no shortage of homeless dogs roaming the streets in Taipei. These 2 factors, combined with unhygienically prepared meals ended my stay in Taiwan 3 months into my 12 month teaching contract. I don't know if the problem still exists, if it's only in Taipei, or if I was just one unlucky guy. Frank T. (Ex-English Teacher, Taipei) |

![]() | Beware of mosquitoes Just had a friend come back from the doctors after having some red, itching marks just near his stomach. It's been red and itching for 2 weeks. Doctors found a filariasis worm from a mosquito under his skin. Doctors had to cut into his skin, leaving him with 3 stitches. He just came back from holidays in Thailand, so it was either a mosquito in Thailand or one in Japan. Interesting facts Beware of the females! ![]()
