Teaching in South Korea without a Bachelor's degree

Schools in South Korea wont hire you unless you have a bachelor's degree. If you want to know what courses to take, then I would suggest as a bare minimum:
  1. a TESL course, and
  2. a diploma course
Some lucky teachers have been able to get their visa with only the above, however they have had to prove themselves to the school. The school is not going to jump through hoops for you and get you a visa when they don't even know you and when there is a good supply of university graduates knocking on their door asking for work.

You can always consider teaching in Summer Camps, building up a rapport with the school, and then perhaps converting to a full-time teacher.

Question so what online school offers

what online school offers the best TESL course and the diploma, that I will be able to gain both of them through the same place and they're still well recognized and respected by the public school system in Seoul?

TESL Course and TEFL Diploma from same school

i-to-i offers both a TEFL Certificate and TEFL Diploma, and are very well known in the industry.

Checkout www.aacircle.com.au/tesl-tefl-courses1.htm for a full listing!

I have just accepted a teaching job in Korea and I do not have a BA. There are lot's of opportunities out there for teaching without a BA.

A quick question. What type of Visa do you have, an E2 , F2 or F4?

Re: teaching in korea with no BA

Hi,
I was wondering how you managed to get employment and a work visa if you dont hold a degree? I have been applying to schools and have been getting knocked back because I dont hold a degree. I do however have a TESOL certificate and I keep getting told that this is not enough. Would I be better off if I do a diploma course? I do hold a tertiary certificate in Pastrycooking and wonder if that combined with my TESOL will open doors for me?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers

I doubt rwall7943 received a visa without a degree. More likely the case is that this person's school was willing to accept teachers under the radar without actually holding a valid work visa.

Something I would not want to do. You are at the mercy of your school and the law and have no case should you get caught.

sevenseconds, I doubt your certificate in pastry cooking along with another certificate in TESOL is going to help. Basically you will be presenting 2 certificates. Different if the case was a DEGREE in pastry cooking (if there is such a thing) along with your TESOL certificate.

Re: teaching in korea with no BA

Hi guys

I didn't get a reply from rwall7943 about what visa they had. If a person has an E2 visa then the only way to work is to fly under the radar. It is a requirement of the E2 to have a degree. If they have a temporary residence F2 visa (must be married to a Korean or have a ton of money) or a permanent resident F4 visa, then they can work without a degree. Only in the Hogwan system though and probably for smaller ones, maybe in rural areas.

Cheers

Mike
