![]() | Southern Japan? I am currently living and working in Kushiro City on Hokkaido. I am enjoying it and want to continue working in Japan. My wife would like it if I could find warmer place in Japan. I really don't want to loose the awesome amount of outdoor recreation that can be found on Hokkaido. Any suggestions. My wife would like to sit on the beach and I would like to ski in the mountains. So basically we are looking for "the perfect place" Good luck right. We also hope to find a little more "traditional Japan" to experience. It is almost non existent up here. I know Kyoto is good for that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ![]() | Re: Southern Japan? Come to Kansai. Where I live, it's 15 minutes to Umeda (Osaka) and in the opposite direction, 15 minutes to Kobe. Mountains right behind me, and 30 minutes to the beach at Suma. Not the cleanest of beaches however, it's still a beach. There are also other beaches further down such as Maiko beach which are cleaner. Weather is close to snowing in the winter and over 30 degrees in the summer. Heaps of teaching work around and cost of living much cheaper that Tokyo. 45 minutes to Kyoto also! This area is great!
