![]() | Cost of Rent in Japan Teaching English in Japan is very exciting, yet expect a world of differences? Very few things are the same as back home. If looking for a high paying English teaching job, then you will surely find it in Japan. It has one of the highest paid English teaching jobs around. BUT expect to pay for it at times. I remember my first apartment in Tokyo. About 20 years old with rent of ¥50,000. It was a 3 tatami mat room with shared common areas. It was comfortable and perfect for me at the time. No key money, and all utilities included. Years later, I then moved to Osaka to live in a 3LDK (3 bedrooms, a living room, dining room and of course kitchen). Rent at this place was ¥83,000 plus I had to pay 5 months key money in advance. Yes, I had to pay for utilities too. I liked this place a lot and ended up staying there for 3 years, so it was worth the move. You may look at the above prices and think, 'hey, that's not too expensive in Osaka'. Well, I think you're right. ¥83,000 is very reasonable and similar to the prices back home. In Japan, there are expensive, reasonable and cheap places to live in. You just gotta know where to find the place that suits your needs. |
