![]() | Japanese Melons fetch top price The season's first pair of Japan's luxury Yubari melons were sold just recently for 800,000 yen at a Sapporo auction. The orange-fleshed Yubari melons, similar in size to a cantaloupe was 1.3kg. In supermarkets in Japan, these Yubari melons are around 8000 yen. Renowned for their high quality and sweet taste, they also have a perfect patterned skin. In Japan, presentation means almost everything. I'm sure if these Yubari melons were not perfect on the outside, they would only fetch about 1,000 yen. Fruit is rather pricey in Japan, so beware!
