![]() | Hi everyone, I'm new here, but I hope that you guys can offer me some help. I am trying to find a job in Japan, specifically in Chiba-ken. I really want to go back to Japan after my trip there last year, but it seems impossible to get a job near my friend's house in Funabashi-shi. I have some basic Japanese language skills, enough to get around, but I lack any real ESL teaching experience. I just have experience helping my Japanese friends learn English. Right now I live in America and I will graduate in May with a BSBA in Business Administration. I am also working on a TEFL certification. I have some volunteer experience teaching first graders, but thats about it. Any thoughts? Any advice? One major problem that I am going up against is that the Japanese school year starts in April, but I don't graduate until May. |

![]() | Re: Help finding a Teaching Job in Japan in Chiba-ken There are plenty of English schools in the area or within 30 minutes commute. I've actually been to Funabashi and it's quite a busy city. Though, you really need to be in the local area and ready to go if you want to find a teaching job easier. By the time you arrive to Japan, you will have obtained your degree and TEFL certificate it seems. With that, you are more than ready to go. If you cannot find in the local area, there would be plenty of jobs in the greater Tokyo area. It's not that far of a commute to Funabashi then. Cheers.

![]() | Re: Help finding a Teaching Job in Japan in Chiba-ken Really!? Thats great news! I've been sweating finding a job for months now. Seem like no one wants to hire a recent graduate with an unrelated degree and no teaching experience. How hard is it to switch a tourist visa over to a working visa once you're there? I wish I had done some job searching last summer when I was there for a month. ![]() |

![]() | Re: Help finding a Teaching Job in Japan in Chiba-ken Heaps of English teachers come to Japan without a job and it doesn't take long before they find themselves employed. I would say the vast majority of teachers here in Japan don't hold a degree in Education. Once you find full-time employment, then the company / school will prepare all your documentation to submit to your local visa office.

![]() | Thanks! I really had no idea that was the case. I'm surprised things aren't tough now since NOVA collapsed and dumped all of those teachers on the market. I really appreciate the help. |
