Going to Japan to look for a job

Hello all,

After hearing from gfell and reading a number of other posts, I have about decided that the best game plan for finding a teaching job in Japan is to go there and look while I am there. I am familiar with the process when applying to places like AEON that take care of everything in the US, but I am not that well versed on looking while in Japan. After I am settled at my Gaijin house, what next? Also, what are some of the small things I should know about like internet access, size of resume paper, bring resume copies with me rather than printing them there, etc?

Thanks,
Michael

Re: Going to Japan to look for a job

A stash of 10 or more resume copies would be an overkill. In fact, even 5 resume copies would be an overkill. Nowadays, resumes are sent via email so that helps a lot. A4 size paper is fine in Japan. Japan operates on the metric scale. Eg: Degrees celsius, centimeters etc.

Gaijin houses will most likely have net access in the common loungeroom. But don't go hogging the PC as other gaijin's most likely will want to use it too.

Some continue staying in the gaijin houses for there whole time in Japan. They are very easy with everything provided. Futon, sheets, pillow, common facilities such as kitchen, laundry etc. They are also great places to make friends.

for housing you can always try Leo's Palace, they don't make you put down a deposit or have a cosigner
