Question Couple wanting to go to Japan

Hi,

My girlfriend and I are Canadians who are currently teaching in the UK. We have heard that the big Japanese companies will not assure us jobs in the same area. Is this true? We do not really see the point in travelling all teh way to Japan just find out we will have to live miles and miles apart. Are there any other options? We are both fully qualified English teachers, though we do not have and TEFL (?) qualifications.

Thank You

Re: Couple wanting to go to Japan

It would be a good idea to get some TEFL qualifications prior as many job adverts require these nowadays. There are some good online courses that are very affordable rather since you already have the teaching experience.

As you are both already teachers and from a native English speaking country, I would suggest to travel to Japan without a job, and apply once you arrive to the city of your preference. If you both arrive to Osaka (best place in Japan) for example, there will be plenty of jobs around. So you can teach at different schools, and still be living in the same city.

You dont need TEFL if you want to work in regular English Conversation schools. March is a great time to arrive
You will have the pick of your jobs
I suggest head for the country areas where you could get a job in the same school or one nearby as it is always harder to get people to come out to the great outdoors when the light of Tokyo blink.
I can put you in touch with someone who might help you more in Gunma
