Chinese-Australian citizen. Will I be wanted?

Good Evening everyone!

I'm new to this forum...meant to be working on my thesis, but instead, excitedly planning for what I want to do next year - teach in Japan.

My main concern is:

If I was to travel to Japan first, and then seek work, will I be looked upon less favourably and have small chances of being hired since I'm Chinese?

I've been here since I was 3 years old, and although not "native" as such, I barely know any Chinese! Of course, my potential employers wont know or care about this!

I've been told by numerous people that my chances are slim. Could someone give me some tips or insight into its truth?

Cheers
Michelle

Re: Chinese-Australian citizen. Will I be wanted?

Do you hold an Australian passport? If so, you will have no problems whatsoever. You don't have to tell them you weren't born in Australia. Japan is not so racist as China or Taiwan when looking for native English teachers. As long as you are native (or very close to it) and hold an Aussie passport, there wont be any problem at all.

I bet you can't wait now to get over here. I suggest Osaka / Kyoto / Kobe area. The best in Japan!
