![]() | I would appreciate some advice on this one please.I am currently looking for a new teaching job due to various reasons of unhappiness in my current position, and I have been possibly offered a good position with a new employer. However, the school that I am currently working for are my visa sponsors and in my contract it says that I am rerquired to give at least two months notice. I understand that for various reasons a school would require the teacher to give notice (this is only fair on the students and the school) however two months makes it very awkward to gain employment with a new school. Can anyone give me some advice on this dilemma please. Many thanks in advance. Last edited by gfell; Sun 09-Jul-06 at 08:57 PM. |

![]() | Ending a contract Well, for starters, a 2 month notice in a contract is quite rare. The norm is to only give 1 month's notice, so next time, ensure the contract only has 1 month notice required. If you aren't happy in your current job, then most likely the school can feel this. Hence, they probably would be happy with you leaving too. So howabout telling the school that you will finish in 4 weeks time and see what their response is. If they do a big song and dance regarding 2 months notice being required, then looks like you have no option. I always believe parting schools on a professional term. You can also tell the school that you would also help to find a replacement teacher. Another thing, the visa in your passport belongs to you and not the school. So don't worry if they threaten to revoke your visa. They will not be able to do a thing. |
