FAQ about SPEED School of English and Poland

Q: Do I need teaching experience?
A: Teaching experience is not essential, but is definitely considered an asset. Personal characteristics are just as significant as teaching experience. Being open, friendly, creative, helpful and confident is the key to the perfect lesson.

Q: What will my average monthly salary be? Is this enough to live comfortably?
A: Your gross average monthly salary will be approximately three to four times higher than the national average. This is more than enough to live comfortably in Poland, where the cost of living is much cheaper compared to Western countries. Our teachers have enough money to go out, go shopping, and travel.

Q: What will be my living accommodations like?
A: Teachers at the school have a wide choice of accommodation available to them, based on their preferences. All teachers have furnished functional flats, which are centrally located. Some teachers share accommodations, whilst others live by themselves. The average monthly cost of renting accommodations ranges from 500 (shared) zloty to 1200 zloty (depending on the city, location and size).

Q: What does teacher training consist of?
A: All prospective teachers receive free initial teacher training. We offer a 10-day teacher training program which covers the following areas:
- Introduction to ESL
- Teaching techniques
- Classroom management
- Teaching grammar
- Introduction of new vocabulary
- Error correction
- Lesson observation
- Teaching practice

Q: What is a typical working week?
A: The majority of classes are taught at the school between 3.30 pm to 9.30 pm. There are other classes in the morning, afternoons and Saturdays that you will teach on a rotational basis.

Q: Who is the typical SPEED School teacher?
A: Teachers come to the school from all over the English speaking world:
Australia, Ireland, South Africa, Canada, United States, Great Britain and New Zealand. Most of our teachers are in their twenties and thirties. Our teachers are very friendly, cooperative and treat their job seriously with due respect for our students. Many teachers decide to renew their contracts, which is a sign of good work environment.

Q: What sort of lifestyle can I expect?
A: It isn't just about working! All the modern conveniences you've become used to in the West are available here in Poland. You'll find it quite natural to take part in the nightlife here and even the cinema, as foreign-language films are almost always subtitled and you'll have no problems finding what you want in terms of food and drink.

Q: Will I have access to English-language media, literature and the
Internet?
A: It is easy to remain in touch with the rest of the world. You can buy most international newspapers and magazines, and there are quite a few foreign-language bookshops. Not only will you have free access to the Internet at school, but there are also plenty of Internet cafes.

Q: What is the recruitment procedure for teachers at the school?
A: Step 1: You send your resume containing information such as: your name, date of birth, citizenship, telephone number, e-mail and home address, education and work experience. We also request a cover letter (brief description of your skills, personality and reasons for applying).
Step 2: After initial assessment of your candidature we send you further details about the job, info package and a more detailed application form.
Step 3: After we receive your completed application, we will arrange a phone interview with you. The interview will take about 30 minutes.
Step 4: After conducting the interview and checking your references, the school will contact you as soon as possible to inform you of its decision.
