![]() | Paid Volunteer English Teacher needed in Mexico Instituto Heslington is a lovely English Language Institute located in Tehuacan, Puebla. We are looking for teachers who are interested in spending a semester in a quiet, traditional Mexican town. Benefits: *Teachers are in class 5 hours/day Monday - Friday (no weekends are ever required and a 25-hour work-week provides teachers with lots of free time to explore the city, learn Spanish and immerse themselves in the culture) *Free Housing (nice, modern apartment, 5 minute walk from the school - utilities paid for) *Casual and professional teaching environment. *12 students maximum per class. *$300 USD/month stipend to help pay for personal costs. Brief Description: This program is designed for teachers who are ESL, CELTA, DELTA, TEFL, or TESOL certified. Teachers who are licensed to teach at an elementary or secondary level in the United States, Canada, UK or Australia may also qualify for this position. Paid ESL Volunteers will receive the equivalent of $300 USD per month as a living stipend. It is important to emphasize that this is a volunteer opportunity and not the chance to make a lot of money overseas. This stipend, though meager by U.S. standards, is the equivalent of what a Mexican ESL teacher working the same number of hours would receive as their salary. Paid ESLVolunteers will also have the unique opportunity of living in an apartment (free of charge) with other Instituto Heslington teachers. Volunteers are responsible for all of their meals. Authentic Mexican food is extremely delicious and healthy and volunteers will enjoy amazing culinary treats as they enjoy the local cuisine. The apartment is a 10-minute walk from the school and is in the heart of downtown Tehuacan. TEACHING EXPECTATIONS Volunteers will teach up to five hours a day, five days a week, Monday - Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are free to allow for travel. Groups have a maximum of 12 students to facilitate teaching. Teachers will have ample time to prepare for their classes and will be provided with basic materials for classroom operation. Games, props and additional teaching materials can be provided by the volunteer or donated by sponsors. Teachers will be responsible for taking attendance and keeping grades for their students. They will also give progress reports to parents at informal parent-teacher meetings. Volunteers are expected to be punctual, hard working and dedicated to their students. Volunteers are expected to advise the director if they are ill or cannot attend a certain class for justifiable reasons. No Spanish is required to volunteer. What is required is an open mind and enthusiasm. Instituto Heslington provides the basic curriculum and lesson plans to teach the fundamentals of the English language. Volunteers have the freedom to integrate activities, games and anything they think will help their students learn and develop. The cost to participate in Instituto Heslington’s Mexico Volunteer program is a semester of dedication and service. You will be responsible for purchasing your airplane ticket on the arrival and departure dates indicated by IH offices. You are also responsible for your personal expenses, and travel costs. There are no hidden or administrative fees. THERE ARE NO FEES INVOLVED IN THE PAID ESL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM, Instituto Heslington covers the following expenses: *Housing for the semester of your stay. *A hands on teaching program that will help you develop the skills necessary to teach in any country and interact with people from all over the globe. *A once in a lifetime experience to serve in immeasurable ways and meet wonderful friends. *The chance to be immersed in the Mexican culture.
