We are looking for two more English for Academic Purposes teachers to complete our team here at the School of International Cooperation, Wuxi South Ocean College. The positions start on 1 October. The Wuxi South Ocean College International Pathway Program in Wuxi introduces students to academic studies in English so that they can go on to study business, computer science, and hospitality management at Western universities in Australia (the University of New England, Armidale), Ireland (Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology), and the United States (St Mary's, San Antonio). We have been running since 1999, with a great deal of success. Many of our past students have gone on to achieve their Master's degrees in Australia and to have successfully found jobs working in their field at home and abroad. With students completing their degrees in Australia, Ireland, and the United States, we are looking for teachers who can introduce academic English and study skills to young adults. Having been through university yourself, you'd realise that foreign students need to learn how to understand and use complex language and ideas to cope with university in English. Teaching this to students requires an excellent understanding of language, an ability to creatively adapt lessons, and a willingness to encourage a student-centred classroom. Where is Wuxi? Wuxi is in Jiangsu Province, on Lake Taihu. It is approximately 1 1/2 hours west of Shanghai. Will Wuxi have what I need? Absolutely. Wuxi is a city of 5 million people, and it has many supermarkets, shopping centres, and both international and local restaurants. Will there be anything to do when I get there? Definitely. Wuxi has beautiful parks and gardens, a small zoo (with pandas), markets, and movie theatres. It is also very flat, so it's great for bike riding. Is it easy to go travelling from Wuxi? Extremely. Wuxi is close to Shanghai, Suzhou, and Nanjing. If you want to go further afield, the train can get you almost anywhere in China. There is also an airport that will get you to various cities in China and to Hong Kong. To apply for the position, email your resume, a reference letter, and your passport to the Director of the English Program: email: teach2008@unepp.net |
