| Should be out-going and able to connect well with children California native - Stanford grad seeks one special MALE teacher. Should be out-going and able to connect well with children on a deep level. Required
Benefits
Staff: currently we have 4 Full-time Teachers + 1 Full Time Assistant + 2 Part-time Assistants + 1 Director. I have a small English school (80 students), which I started in 1990 in our family home. In November 2000, we moved out and it became solely a school. In April 2001, I started the English Immersion Preschool/Kindergarten with 7 students. We now generally have about 40 students, less in April and a little more in January. We accept students throughout the year and prefer them to enter just around 2 years old. We do not "teach" the children, but rather surround them with English and continually talk to them in English as we play. We do free-style arts & crafts: explore science experiments; experience food & cooking; feed the goat, rabbits, chickens, ducks & turkeys; and perform other daily activities (wash hands, eat lunch, brush teeth, etc.). The children are extremely outgoing and very friendly, certainly compared to other Japanese children, but also compared to American children. The veteran preschool/kindergarten children all speak English now and the new entering kids quickly acquire language skills and soon stop speaking Japanese. This is a fascinating environment in which to observe language acquisition. Actually, this is a job you will never forget. The work is hard, but incredibly rewarding. This is not your typical "eikaiwa" job where you see little progress in your students apathetic or enthusiastic, regardless!). This is a chance to really get to know your students on a personal level. These kids will touch your hearts! Working Environment If you have ever worked in a busy bar or restaurant, then you will feel right at home at SSU! It is chaotic, loud, high energy, fun, crazy but really satisfying at the end of the day. You will also need to project your voice and be loud yourself. You need to be able to work under pressure or in stressful situations (crying kid in your arms, need to keep your humor to deal with a crazy 4 year old standing on the table and in the meantime it's time to move your group outside). You need to have a lot of energy to meet and harness the energy of the kids and you need to keep your cool while multi-tasking. But on the other hand, the kids will love you unconditionally if you show them your real heart and they will jump in your arms shouting, ìI love you! You will see reserved kids come out of their shells before your eyes and you will see their real beings shine out from their faces. This is truly amazing. Living Situation The teacher will live in a furnished 2LDK small house (2 6-mat rooms plus dining/kitchen and of course bath & toilet) near the school. My husband is a natural farmer organic, but no animal fertilizers), so along with the eggs, there will perhaps be vegetables available (when my husband has time to pick!). We are located in Kamikawa-machi, on the edge of Saitama prefecture near Gunma prefecture - accessible to Tokyo by car or train (2 hours). As this is the country, it is hard to get along without a car, so I provide one for the teacher's private use, but the teachers pay for the monthly expenses. The car expense (¥20,000) and rent (¥50,000) will be deducted from the pay. A unique opportunity for someone interested in a more natural approach to life. Candidate should show a high sense of responsibility and ability to work independently as well as under the auspices of a fairly strong-minded director. Please be sure to read the above paragraph regarding Working Environment. To Apply Send resume, photo & cover letter to: Nancy Hachisu Director Sunny-Side Up!
