Re: help !! need activity for teaching `which`

How many in the class? What are their levels like? How long is your class? Do you teach them once a week?

With this information I can then give a better response.

Thanks.

Re: help !! need activity for teaching `which`

Thanks for the reply.

The class size is 40 and I am teaching them about this for the first time. Total class is for 45 mins but I want the activity for 15 - 20 mins. BTW this is for Japanese students.

Thumbs up Re: help !! need activity for teaching `which`

Thanks for your info.

I would give Junior-high school students some sort of handout to base their studies on. Make the handout fun and straight forward to complete.

Here's what I would do:
  1. Create a handout with 5 questions starting with "which". Make the questions a little challenging. Sample questions would be:
    - Which person in the picture looks the most relaxed? Why?
    - Which childhood character did you most want to be?
    - Which language would you like to be fluent in? Russian or Spanish? Explain your answer.
    - and so on...
  2. Next, leave about 3 blank lines where students are to write their own "which" sentences.
  3. Once all students have completed the handout, inform them that they have 10 minutes to stand-up, and mix with other students to find the answers to those "which" questions they wrote in the step above. This gives them practices at speaking with a time limit. Tell them not to focus on grammar or correctness, but instead communication.
In step 3 above, give each student a number, and tell them to find a partner with another odd or even number. Eg: All even numbered students should find even numbered pairs. This should be a fun exercise!

Let me know how it goes.

Have your students interview each other for a job, or for any other activity that you prefer. They then have to write out what they learned and hand it in.
