![]() | My English World Club has main office in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia. They claim to be in some sort of partnership with the local government; they are not. They will tell you the company is "American owned." It is actually ran by a Chinese expat that says she has US citizenship. The company is registered in the name of the Chinese office manager. The owner claims to be a lawyer, and she will tell you she has a lot of connections and can get things done quickly for you. In fact, she may have been a law clerk, or married to a lawyer at one time, but she has no connections, and cannot even get legal work visas. The Canadian managers are pathological liars. Even when caught in their lies, they will try to lie their way out of it. If they call you, just ask for proof of anything they claim (like relationship with the local government). Ask them for some email addresses or telephone numbers of current teachers so you can check out their claims. The company always pays late. The company will try to "fudge" hours by not counting a 50 minute class period as a teaching hour. The company will withhold more of your pay for taxes than the actual tax amount. Housing will not be provided according to your contract. You will be threatened with physical violence or be payed even later than other employees if you complain. Do yourself a favour and just go somewhere else. There are tons of places looking for teachers in China, and a lot of them are good to work for. If you want to go to Tongliao, there are good schools there. Just stay away from My English World Club. It is very bad. |

![]() | My English World Club defense Hello all, I just wanted to drop a line concerning My English World Club. I am a teacher who currently works for them. Where do I begin? I have seen numerous postings about this company, attacking it and ripping it apart. I think many of the people who do this are doing it for sport. I have taught for many schools and companies in the Tongliao area and let me assure you, this company is really not bad. I have been with these guys since March and I have no money problems, a beautiful apartment (I can send photos), a lovely schedule and loads of support. My wife and I had a baby about 3 weeks ago and the company stood by us through it all. I remember in previous posts that someone stated the Canadian manager's wife made humans look bad. Well, this terrible person was by my wife's side and made sure that we were ok. I lost a week's work due to the hospital trip, but that terrible manager named Bill managed to get me extra classes at wierd times, just to make sure that my wife and I had the money we needed. Just hideous they are. The purpose of these postings are to inform people about what is good or what is bad. If you want to tarnish a companies reputation, please do so if you have a valid reason. My name is Danny Pike, my telephone number is 011-86-137-3475-3223 and my email is danny_s_pike@yahoo.ca. If you have any questions about My English World Club, please drop me a line, or, if you are interested in joining the team, call me. This is not an ad, nor am I biased. I just hate it when people only give one - sided statements without thinking that there are teachers looking for jobs and will probably overlook My English World Club due to the comments posted, only to end up in a difficult situation with a genuinely terrible school. |

![]() | No matter what school you go with, there will be bound to be problems as no school can ALWAYS keep EVERY teacher happy. The main thing to look out for is are the managers of the school out to get you or not. Some schools are setup to scam both students and teachers and often these schools don't last long. Of all the bad press a school gets, there is possible 5 fold good press. People are very quick to talk about the bad and less motivated to talk about the good. My advice would to ask a school for 1 current and 1 ex teacher so you can contact them direct. Also, posting questions on boards like this can't hurt too. Just keep an open mind. |
