Carden American School Sucks!

This school is a horror show from the ground up. DO NOT WORKat the school. A number of teachers quit this school because the owner's did not hold to the contact. If you apply for a job here ask for an old teacher's email...I bet you that cant give one refrence. Their are not text books used so you have to make them all on your own. The director actually makes you break the law by stealing clipart and other ideas from webiste to put in Carden's cirriculum. I wouldn't be surprised if they got sued!

Anyone else with such an experience with Carden?

Lot's of people steal clipart and text from other sites nowadays, and it aint only Carden. So howabout giving us something more concrete as to why not sign up with Carden to teach.

Carden teachers unhappy with their employment or unable to successfully handle the requirements of their job, for whatever reasons, are generally given the option to amicably end their contractual obligations and seek employment elsewhere, including Taiwan, with no hard feelings or repercussions.

Having to let an employee go is never easy nor is it pleasant, and the humiliation on the employee’s part can often result in strong animosity toward his or her former supervisors.

But there are times when a company must terminate an employee’s contract due to unacceptable conduct or flagrant breach of contract. Carden School has been lucky to have gone to such extremes only once in the past five years. The teacher in question displayed conduct and behaviors inconsistent with the professional standards required of Carden teachers, and his contract was terminated after three weeks. Unfortunately, this individual, angered over having been let go, established a libelous website (www.geocities.com/cardensucks) for the obvious purpose of discrediting the school and defaming the reputations of its owners and director. This same teacher is the very one who posted the garbage on this forum.

All at Carden understand that voicing opinions on the Internet, however misguided or ill founded they may be, is an individual’s right to speak freely. But most allegations made by the author (ESL Newsy) regarding the school are exaggerations or falsehoods. "Valid" school reviews by other Carden teachers (listed herein) verify this point.

Furthermore, making damaging statements in order to sully a teacher's reputation clearly reflects the defamatory nature of the website as well as the character of its author. More to the point, Newsy's comments in this regard have absolutely no relevance whatsoever to his issues with the school, and were thus clearly meant to be hurtful on a professional level. Allegations of stealing clipart is especially ridiculous as nothing taken from the internet is used for promotional purposes or financial gain. Spicing up a reading piece with a comic picture is hardly “theft.”


The actual reasons for termination of the "teacher in question's" employment:

1. Consistently ignoring curriculum and material to be taught

2. Student and parent complaints regarding teaching method and failure to follow curriculum

3. Rudely and vociferously accusing owners of being liars in front of other teachers, director, AND students, including owner's 6-year-old daughter!

4. Continued disrespect toward director and owners

Any and all Carden teachers, past and present (contact information listed below) readily refute negative assertions leveled against the school by the author, whose name I withold for ethical reasons. Thank you.

I'm truly sorry to clutter forum boards in regard to the libelous dross generated by Carden's own "teacher-from-hell." This guy was the bottom of the barrel and went off the wall when he was fired. "ONE" reason his contract was terminated (not broken except by him) was because of his paranoid behavior, which led to trashing the school (and everyone connected with it ) in the office, in front of teachers and students alike. He was a true nightmare, though I'm sure by his warped estimation, Carden School was his own. It does peak my curiosity, though, why he begged not to be let go! Odd. Anyway, other teachers HAVE NOT quit from Carden because they hated the school. Nor have their contracts EVER been broken by Carden. Two have left because they found the curriculum a bit demanding and preferred to work in Taipei, where the life is a bit spicier. They were graciously asked if they would prefer to be let out of their contracts to teach elsewhere in Taiwan and they assented (Jona Kraft: Taijona@gmail.com and Ken Delmage-email to be provided soon ). Most Carden teachers, however, usually extend their contracts. As the Carden Slammer suggests, PLEASE contact past and present teachers at Carden and get the truth. After all, I'm a foreign teacher myself and I've been here for five years. I wouldn't put up with unscrupulous practices by the owners, and as a director I wouldn't allow it for other teachers either. But it's really not an issue that's ever come up at Carden before. The Carden Slammer simply has an agenda to bash the school in any way possible. Good response kurtzbag. I'm glad you cleared this up for all of us. For every 100 teachers that teach at a school, no matter how good the school treats them, there will always be a disgruntled teacher.

The first post in this post was kept anonymous. Obviously the teacher has something to hide. Why didn't he reveal his email and name?
