![]() | Is this where I say hello? hello! Well, the last fortnight may just prove the most important of my life Last monday morning, I realized I was sick of university. This happens every monday, but, this monday, the feeling stuck with me. And it stuck all through that week. So I did some sifting through the internet, and here I am ! I'm living in brisbane (oz ) at the moment, but hope to be somewhere in china by the end of august. I start a TESOL course in four weeks, and the guy I talked to on the phone seemed convinced it would be enough to get me a job overseas. This is basically the extent of my knowledge, and I'll be the first to admit I'm way out of my league here. BUT, if some of you PRO travelling-scholars can find it in your heart, I welcome any and all advice. Well, that's about all for now, but I'm certain to have a gagillion more questions the closer I get to d-day. makhnovista ps - great site! I haven't found anywhere else as bulging with tips and tricks ![]() |

![]() | Re: Is this where I say hello? Welcome to the boards makhnovista! Is Uni really that bad? It was one of the best times in my life. Friends the same age, pocket money from my part-time job, and not too hard of a schedule. I hope you do finish your uni studies some day. So you want to go to China and teach? You have no experience but will have gained a TESOL certificate... you are a native English speaker? Then, for sure go! You will find a job there. BUT, don't expect every door to be open without having a uni degree. Does your TESOL course provider assist with placement? A lot of them do you know...

![]() | Re: Is this where I say hello? Aah, uni isn't too bad, it's just the situation I'm in... Specifically, living with my father and being dirt poor. Now I've left high school, I'm going to try avoid terrible jobs that make me want to die. Hence my poverty Yar, I plan to finish my degree when I get back. Hopefully the experience in china will help me get a tutoring job here? |

![]() | Re: Is this where I say hello? Yep, welcome to the world of teaching English abroad, and specifically China. One thing I've learned, we need to band together as foreign teachers to give each other support in such a foreign environment. I've known awesome colleagues that all have difficulties in one form or another, and it isn't pretty sometimes. It may make you miss home and flare out in anger sometimes. Support for each other, especially if you're lucky to have four or more fellow foreign teachers, have been a big key to my survival here. I'm sure many feel they can survive on their own, and that's likely true, but supporting each other also prevents schools from taking advantage of foreign teacher by picking one of at a time, or even turning one on another. My two cents ![]() |
